TAHOE DONNER

 

Tahoe Donner is a planned community.  The development of this area was started in the early 1970’s.  It has 6,000 lots varying in size, but averaging ¼ acre each.  Approximately 70% of all lots are now built upon.  Of those with houses, one third are permanent residents of Truckee; the other two thirds are used as vacation homes.

The vacation homes are used by the owners or rented out.  There are yearly homeowner’s dues and an optional yearly recreational fee.

 

As part of the planned community, many amenities are available for use by the property owners in Tahoe Donner.  Below is a brief description of those amenities.  Entrance to most of the amenities is limited to property owners and their guests.  Owners who have paid the annual recreation fee are admitted free.  There is a nominal fee for guests. 

 

 

 

Trout Creek Recreation Center

This is a great fitness and aquatics complex open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM year round.

 

There is a large recreation pool open from mid May to mid September.  Adjacent to the large pool is the children’s wading pool and family spa.  There is also a lap pool (reserved for those 18 years and over) and another spa next to it.  The lap pool is open year round.  This facility also included a steam room, dry sauna and shower area.

 

Behind the recreational pool are a basketball court, playground equipment, and a large lawn, picnic, and barbecue area.

 

The fitness room (ages 14 years and over) has a variety of weight and aerobic equipment.  There are professional fitness trainers available for private sessions for a fee.

 

Outside the recreation center there is an area, which become the snow play area in the winter.  Plastic disks and sleds are available for sledding on the gentle slopes.  It is great fun for kids and adults.

 

 

Beach Club Marina

Tahoe Donner has its own sandy beach and boat ramp on Donner Lake.  This facility is open from Memorial Day to mid-September.

 

There is a rental fleet of two person kayaks, pedal boats, canoes, rowboats, sailboards and sailboats.  There are sailing and sailboard clinics and lessons available.  This area also has volleyball, barbecues, picnic tables and a dock for fishing.  There are many activities that take place at this facility in the summer such as the full moon canoe and board rides.

 

 


 

Tennis Center

The tennis center is open in its entirety from mid-May through mid-October.  The nets are put up as soon as the snowmelts off the courts and taken down after the first sign of snow.

 

The tennis center is top notch.  It has eleven courts, two practice courts, ball machine, pro shop with retail merchandise, locker rooms, lounge with TV and barbecue area.  It has a full staff including a great pro and assistant pro which give clinics and lessons all summer and put on many wonderful tournaments and events.

 

 

Golf Course and Driving Range

The golf course is open from mid-May to mid October, however opening day can be delayed due to the length of winter or closing can be moved up if there are early snow falls.  This facility is open to the public also.  Weekend and holiday times in peak season are held for property owners until noon on the Friday proceeding the weekend.  At that time the remaining times are released to the public.  Twilight starting times from 3:04pm through 3:36PM are reserved exclusively for property owners and their guests.  Property owners do pay for golf, but at a much-reduced rate from the public rate.  Property owners, beginning at 6:30AM may obtain reservations up to 12 days in advance.

 

 

Tahoe Donner’s championship 18-hole golf course is one of the top-10 rated courses in Northern California.  It is 6,917 yard, 71.2 par course.  There is a driving range, pro shop, snack bar, restaurant and lounge.  The pro and staff are available for lessons and give clinics.

 

 

Equestrian Center

The equestrian center is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.  It is open to the public, but property owners can rent horse and reduced rates.

 

Property owners may board their own horses here.  The center itself has a large group of horses used for trail rides and lessons.  There are also hayrack rides and western barbecues.

 

 

 

 


 

Tahoe Donner Ski Hill

The ski hill is a 120-acre ski bowl with 14 trails, one quad lift and one double lift.  This ski area is open to the public.  Property owners pay a reduced rate for lift tickets.

 

It is a premier “learn to ski” area or where you want to go if you only feel like skiing for a couple hours.  There is a ski rental shop, restaurant and lounge.  Lessons in skiing, snowboarding and telemarking are given.

 

 

Nordic Ski Center

In the winter, the Equestrian Center becomes the Nordic Ski Center.  It is open to the public, but property owners pay a reduced rate for its use.

 

Some of the best cross-country terrain can be found in Tahoe Donner. Its 70km of groomed trails offers terrain for all levels.  Tahoe Donner offers the only Nordic night skiing in the area with its 2.5km of lighted track.  For the long distance skiers, there are warming shacks to rest and have something to eat.

 

 

Other Facilities

Tahoe Donner has others amenities for property owner use. 

 

There is the Northwoods Club House where the Tahoe Donner offices are located.  That facility has meeting rooms and a restaurant and lounge open Thursday night through Sunday night.  Outside the building is another swimming pool for summer use.

 

There is a campground on the banks or Alder Creek.  There are 42 campsites for tents and RV’s up to 40 feet.  There are showers, laundry, electrical hook-ups, etc.

 

There is a storage area for RV’s and boats.
